Your SUP Questions Answered
Inflatable stand-up paddle boards will offer you an incredible day out in the water that you will remember for a long time to come. To make the most out of your paddle boarding experience, however, you need to familiarise yourself with the basics of your watercraft and the sport as a whole.
What is a Stand-Up Paddle Board?
A stand-up paddleboard (also known as a SUP) is a watercraft designed for a wide variety of activities on the water. Some popular examples include paddleboarding and touring specific locations. Other less common uses of an inflatable SUP include surfing and even doing yoga or different types of exercises on the water.
Stand up paddle boards are most commonly made out of PVC and other inflatable materials (as is the case with our range). They are designed for a person to stand up and propel themselves through the water to their destination in style. There are a few key features that almost every stand-up paddle board has, including:
- Most SUPs have a single or a set of fins at the bottom of the board, which massively help with stability and control
- All SUPs (in the case of Tidal Rave) come with a paddle that the rider can use to propel themselves through the water
- Most SUPs feature soft deck padding, which is most commonly made out of EVA to provide a more comfortable and non-slip surface for the paddler
How Long Do Our Paddle Boards Last?
Generally speaking, every stand up paddle board for sale on this page will last anywhere from 5 to 8 years. Now, please take that with a pinch of salt because it really depends on a few factors, including:
- How often you use the paddle board
- Where and the water conditions you use the paddle board in
- How you store your SUP paddle board when not in use
- How well you look after the paddle board
With proper care, your Tidal Rave stand up paddle board can last way over a decade, making it a worthwhile investment.
Is Paddle Boarding Hard?
As is the case with any sport, stand up paddle boarding for beginners can be quite tricky. However, the large majority of people get the hang of paddle boarding relatively quickly. So, no, we wouldn’t say that stand up paddle boarding is hard. You just need to get used to the water and your paddle board.
